Mountain Marble

Katie Button

Chef and Owner
Curate Tapas Bar, Asheville

“When we envisioned the interior of Curate, we knew we that wanted to include a marble bar and soapstone vanities in the restrooms to create the ambiance of old Spain. Hank helped us to select the perfect stone for our project and gave us a tremendous amount of technical advice. The shop followed through with beautiful fabrication and finishing. The installation crew was amazing; it was one of the aspects of the construction that went very smoothly.

Just before we opened we had a mishap that damaged the marble bar. The Mountain Marble crew was so responsive—there in a flash to repair and restore the stone so that it was perfect when we welcomed our first customers.

The marble bar has mellowed beautifully and taken on a warm patina. We’re very pleased; it feels authentic. Stop by Curate to see for yourself. Thanks Hank and Mountain Marble!”

Allard & Roberts Interior Design

"I am an interior designer located in Asheville, NC and have worked with Hank and the Mountain Marble team for the last eight years. They have an extensive collection of unique countertop and fireplace materials to choose from, which limits the need for out of town travel to find just the right material. The convenience of their location is useful, but it's their knowledgeable and helpful staff that keeps us, and our clients, coming back. Their fabrication team is experienced and skilled. We design very specific details, and they have the know-how to fabricate or engineer just what we are looking for.

I've never been on a job-site where something didn't go wrong at some point, and the Mountain Marble team works diligently to correct issues when they arise. We always take our clients to Mountain Marble first, because we know we will get the materials, knowledge, customer service, fabrication and attention to detail that we and our clients expect."

"What really sets Mountain Marble apart is their commitment to professionalism from beginning to end. They offer an extensive selection of fine stone and being able to see the slabs in natural light in the yard is so important. Hank really knows his stone and that technical knowledge is extremely helpful in determining the best material for the project.  But that’s just the start.

Once the stone is chosen it’s up to the fabrication team to make sure that everything is perfect. Accurate measurements are key and Karl not only has technically advanced tools, but also years of experience in getting the details right.

As far as I know, Mountain Marble is the only stone company that provides expertly drawn plans that show all faucet and accessory locations for approval before any holes are drilled in countertops. Dwayne Johnson is in charge of this crucial step, eliminating mistakes and surprises before they happen.

Not only do I choose to work with Mountain Marble for my professional interior design projects, I’ve chosen to work with them for my own recent kitchen update. I can’t think of a higher recommendation than that. My husband and I are thrilled with our new, leathered granite."

“When I’m working on a project, I can relax knowing Hank Strauss and Mountain Marble are handling the stone.  Hank really knows his product and what it can or can't do. For example: I wanted a granite coping on an outdoor pool, Hank suggested the perfect (and not the most expensive) non-slip granite for the application.

I had selected beautiful Labradorite granite for my own kitchen. We were fixed on having a chiseled, textured edge, but the shop determined that the edge would not work well with this type of granite. They were right. We went with the cut and polished edge and it is perfect.

I've seen other jobs where a client had picked black granite from another fabricator, but the shade of the slabs was off—enough to cause problems. That sort of thing doesn’t happen with Mountain Marble.

It's not just about having the perfect stone; it's about knowing what it can or can't do. Hank and Mountain Marble will get the client the right stone and get the installation right as well.”

"We have enjoyed working with Hank and his team for about 17 years now, from basic granite counter top installations to some very interesting and intricate carved stone projects. Their willingness and ability to work through projects at either end of the spectrum is one of the things that separates them from their competition. All of our clients have been extremely pleased with the work they’ve done and the kind and professional way in which they were treated by all of Hank’s team. We are big fans of Mountain Marble and look forward to working with them on future projects."

“There are a few people who have been important constants in my twenty-two-year career and Hank Strauss is one of them.  Most of what I've learned about the possibilities of stone and other solid surfaces, I've learned from him.  His team has always delivered great results.  The best projects are those that involve teams; folks whose knowledge, creativity and skill help achieve a greater collective result than any individual involved could have imagined. Hank is one of those folks.  Plus, his sarcastic wit keeps me on my toes and he always knows the best places to eat.

“I have worked with Mountain Marble on several large custom homes. Hank is always very helpful but never "pushy" when I bring in clients to select granite and marble, describing the pros and cons of various slabs. I think the main reason I enjoy working with Hank and Mountain Marble is that they are not just selling stone. They have a true passion for all aspects of the industry from the quarry to the finished installation.”
